The advance reservation of network connections is an area of growing interest and a range of service models and algorithms have been proposed to achieve various scheduling objectives, i.e., including optimization-based strategies and heuristic schemes. Now given the time-shifted nature of future requests, rerouting strategies have also been considered to improve resource allocation and carried loads. However, most existing rerouting schemes have focused onminimizing connection disruptions and have not considered further link load information. Along these lines, this paper develops novel rerouting strategies to improve connection scheduling in advance reservation networks. Specifically, a dynamic optimization formulation is presented to handle ‘‘on-line’’ arrivals along with a new heuristic load-balancing strategy. The performance of these proposed solutions is then evaluated for a wide range of network topologies and also compared against some existing rerouting schemes. 2012 Elsevier B.V. Quality of Service (QoS) Provisioning in IP-based Broadband Wireless Mobile Networks

In this paper, we propose the seamless switching scheme of RSVP (resource ReSerVation Protocol) branch path for soft handoff in IP micro-mobility domain. Typically, in order to minimize the handoff service disruption of RSVP flows, RSVP message delays and signaling overheads should be minimized. We firstly propose the rerouting scheme of RSVP branch path at a crossover router (CR) at every hand...

Reliable RSVP path reservation for multimedia communications under an IP micromobility scenario

In this article we focus on how quality of service) guarantees can be provided for RSVP flows during handoff events in an IP micromobility network. For this purpose, RSVP message delays and signaling overheads should be minimized, and handoff service disruption should also be minimized. By rerouting the RSVP branch path at a crossover router at every handoff event, and establishing the new RSVP...

Mobility modeling, location tracking, and trajectory prediction in wireless ATM networks

Wireless ATM networks require efficient mobility management to cope with frequent mobile handoff and rerouting of connections. Although much attention has been given in the literature to network architecture design to support wide-area mobility in public ATM networks, little has been done to the important issue of user mobility estimation and prediction to improve the connection reliability and...

A Taxonomy of Rerouting in Circuit-Switched Networks

In circuit-switched networks it is well known that dynamic routABSTRACT ing can provide significant throughput gain over fixed routing. Rerouting is the practice of routing calls currently on alternate paths to direct paths or other less congested alternate paths. Previous studies have shown t h a t rerouting can not only increase the throughput of dynamic routing, but also maintain network sta...
